Statement from the Board of Directors

To the HYLA community and network:

We write to you with both heavy hearts and a deep, enduring hope. The outcome of this election may feel like yet another confirmation of the struggles that poor and marginalized communities in this country continue to face. Yet we, as people of faith, know that our vision is not bound by any single moment or administration.

Regardless of how the election turned out, both parties have shown their unwavering commitment to policies that perpetuate harm abroad and oppression at home. They have fully endorsed the funding of war and land theft in the Middle East, while maintaining a legacy of treating Latin America as their “backyard.” This is the reality we face—but it is also the reality that we, as a community, have committed to challenging.

HYLA has always been dedicated to building capacity among our young leaders through education and intentional mentorship, nurturing a generation that can envision and work toward a world where dignity and justice are possible and where we can bear witness to the Kindom of God on earth as in heaven. Today, this commitment is needed more than ever.

So we move forward, not with despair but with clarity and hope. We know that another world is possible, and we will continue this journey together, with faith in the power of our people and the strength of our shared purpose, through the power of Holy Spirit.

With hope and unwavering commitment,
—The HYLA Board of Directors
